La Reina Valera Revisada fue publicada por primera vez en 1977 respetando el texto base de Reina y conservando la belleza y cadencia de su forma castellana.
Los revisores, un equipo de especialistas dirigidos por el Dr. Francisco Lacueva, optaron por seguir la versión original de Reina, que utiliza el Textus Receptus, pero señalando entre corchetes todas aquellas palabras o porciones que no son respaldadas por los múltiples manuscritos y códices de mayor autoridad, descubiertos y estudiados solo hasta años recientes, algo imposible de lograr a partir de los escasos manuscritos conocidos en el siglo XVI.
Para el texto hebreo hoy se cuenta con la alta precisión de la Biblia Hebraica de Kittel para el
Antiguo Testamento. En cuanto al Nuevo Testamento tenemos seguridad y evidencia de que ningún documento de la antigüedad ha sido transmitido mediante manuscritos tan numerosos y tan antiguos. El número de manuscritos aumenta constantemente y hoy se conocen más de 5.500.
